Points and Challenges
Enjoy the walk. We'll keep track of the discoveries along the way.
Start recording your walk, pass nearby places, then save it. Points and badges are confirmed after your walk syncs and its check-ins are verified.
How points add up
| What you do | Points earned |
|---|---|
| Save a walk | 10 points, plus 1 point for every complete 250 meters walked. Walk points are capped at 150 per saved walk. |
| Check in at a place | 10 points for each eligible automatic check-in. |
| Visit a place for the first time | 15 extra points. That's 25 points total for your first verified check-in at that place. |
| Meet a badge challenge | A badge when all its requirements are met. Challenges do not currently add extra points. |
Walk points formula: 10 + the number of complete 250-meter segments, up to 150 points. One mile adds about 6 distance points.
A two-mile walk
Walk two miles and check in at five places you've never visited before:
- 22 walk points: 10 for the saved walk + 12 for distance.
- 125 check-in points: 5 first-time visits × 25.
Total: 147 points, from the saved walk and verified check-ins.
Automatic check-ins
During a recorded walk, sights and parks can qualify as you pass within 150 feet. Restaurants, cafés and bars require an accurate GPS stop of at least one continuous minute near the place. Walking past a restaurant does not count. Your saved GPS trace verifies each visit before points are awarded.
If neighboring restaurants share a GPS area, your saved-walk summary asks Where did you stop? Select the place you visited or None of these. Select both only if you actually stopped at both. No purchase is required. GPS verifies a nearby stop, not entry into a business.
Each place counts at most once per saved walk. The same place has a two-hour cooldown between eligible check-ins, so circling one spot doesn't keep adding points. On a later eligible visit, you earn the standard 10 points; the first-visit bonus only applies once.
If you're offline, your walk can be saved locally. Account points and badges appear after it syncs and verification completes. Retrying the same saved walk does not earn the same visit rewards again.
Challenges unlock badges
Challenges are combinations of verified check-ins: discovering different places, visiting a particular set of stops, or meeting category and point milestones. Open a challenge in the app to see its exact requirements and your progress.
All of a badge's required conditions must be met. For example, a badge may require visits to several different historic places rather than repeated visits to one. Badges are evaluated after you save your walk; badges recognize check-in milestones and do not currently award bonus points.
There is currently no daily streak multiplier. Walking together is welcome, but being in a buddy group does not multiply your points.
Badges to explore
History Hunter recognizes five different historical places. Park Hopper recognizes three different parks. First Check-In, Five Stop Streak, Arboretum Explorer and Family Explorer celebrate saved-walk visits and their listed requirements.
DORA Explorer
Visit three different participating DORA places across your saved walks. No purchase or alcohol is required, and the badge does not add bonus points.
The walking map outlines the published Wooster DORA area in yellow. Place details identify listed DORA venues; being inside the boundary alone does not establish participation. Alcohol service is for ages 21 and older; follow posted hours and boundary signs. View official DORA information.
